During our December 2025 Disability Power Series event, Mary “MJ” McConner, PhD, presented “Emotional Intelligence: Honoring Different Ways of Communicating & Connecting.” Dr. McConner is the Founder & CEO of Inclusive Excellence Consulting. As a neurodivergent professional, Dr. McConner emphasizes the importance of advocating neuroinclusive environments. Her presentation on emotional intelligence was both insightful and inspiring.

Dr. McConner’s presentation defines emotional intelligence and how it connects to neuroinclusion and workplace accessibility.  Dr. McConner emphasizes the importance of training our emotional intelligence “like a muscle.” Identifying your strengths and challenges when it comes to emotional intelligence can allow us to understand each other better. Dr. McConner ended her presentation with the three takeaways:

  1. Your way is valid.
